The weather had really begun to turn nasty at this point with big winds and showers, and seeing as it was blatently obvious that Cam wasn’t going to feature on my ride, I half considered throwing in the towel and riding home from there. The pace picked up and we cruised around and over the Narrows.
Apparently one of our group had taken the bend too quickly and gone straight over the fence, splitting his lip open on a rock!įortunately the chap was ok – but we waited around 25 mins for him to receive first aid and for arrangements to be made to get him home. We were less than 10 minutes into the ride at this point before disaster struck riding with a couple of nice chaps and looking back behind us, we realised that we seemed to have lost the rest of the group whilst travelling at a round 10km per hour! I could see a group or riders all huddled at a bend on the parthway. Riding off from the start with the Golden BoyĪfter quickly conferring, we ducked off to the left down the cycle path. The poor boy looked a little alarmed by my enthusiasm and then downright nervous when I switched my most beaming smile on him. Gradually however, the group participant numbers increased – but not before I’d spied Cam and hurried over to have my snapshot taken with him. I was pretty exhausted actually, having already completed a reasonably fast extended loop of the river with the SPR breakfast ride that morning. I admit I did hope the weather would help reduce the numbers somewhat so that I would have Cam all to myself. The weather was decidedly ropey the sun peeked through a couple of times, but the clouds were threatening and a little angry looking with a few spots of rain in the air. The ride was being held in order to raise funds to send Claire Anderson, (a wheelchair bound young woman in the Perth community), to India for further research into her condition – a most worthy cause.Īnxious not to miss the chance to “Ride with Cam” I signed up and arrived at the Point Walter car park in plenty of time.
